Well… that Sucks…

Another week, another video…
Hey, wait a minute: where’s the video? Oh, wait, that’s right – YOU CAN’T SEE IT!
So, I woke up this morning to upload an ad for my album, “The A.P.T. LP” onto YouTube. Imagine my surprise, then, when I go to click on my YouTube page… only to find that it’s been disabled!
Yep! They disabled it. ALL my videos were taken down, and my account was suspended.
Why? Well, after reading through the site’s terms of use, I think I may have broken quite a few rules, including:
- Using other people’s copyrighted works (i.e. any remixes I did to other people’s songs without their expressed written permission)
- Using the site to advertise my projects for the purpose of making money (i.e. telling people how much my album was vs. just telling them where to get it without mentioning price).
So… talk about bad timing! I mean, I JUST released my album yesterday, and now all my videos and ads for it have been taken down!
Oddly enough, I’m not frustrated about it… yet. I think for right now I’m more in the “What step do I take next” mode. The first thing I’ll probably do is open up another account and try to repost some of the videos with original content. The only thing that sux is, I had so many subscribers on my channel, and now I’m essentialy going back down to zero.
On the plus side, I have a lot of MySpace friends now, so I’ll probably just work on cultivating more of them. And, for future videos/content, I’ll know to only film or release stuff that I personally own. So, in essence, it’s a learning experience, and at the end of the day, I’m just glad I didn’t get sued!
I’ll keep you all posted – in the meantime, get the album, “The A.P.T. LP!” Only 5.99 for the MP3, 7.99 for the CD!

FUCK YOUTUBE. All I can say…
I went to play the song for the 100 Millionth time, and it was gone! I was so sad.
Thank god there are other copies of it on youtube.

Still… make new accounts and repost.
First thing I did was hit up the search which would have been able to lead me to your new Acct had you reposted it.
Sucks as you likely have the McCain bury squad on your ass.

You need to protest this with Youtube and try to get your existing account reinstated. I’m not sure, but I think “suspended account” just means the videos are unavailable, not actually “taken down”… so if they ‘unsuspend’ your account, your views, subscribers, comments, etc should still be there. (PS: If you didn’t know, the last views count on the Obama Obama video was 316,344.)
The problem was probably only the thing with Tyga. I saw pretty much all your videos and none of the others seemed likely to be any problem.
There is nothing wrong with how you were promoting your album, as there was actual content in all your videos, not the kind of spam that rule was intended to target. There is a clearer statement in the Terms Of Use at http://www.youtube.com/t/terms :
“Prohibited commercial uses do not include: uploading an original video to YouTube, or maintaining an original channel on YouTube, to promote your business or artistic enterprise”
Don’t just create a new account or they will close it too. See http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=57391 :
“There are a variety of reasons an account may be terminated. The most common reason is repeated violation of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Use (including claims of copyright infringement). For severe abuse, it is possible for an account to be terminated on a first offense, such as predatory behavior or spam. Individuals whose account has been terminated are prohibited from creating new accounts. If a new account is discovered, it too may be terminated without warning.”
Unless you’d already gotten warnings I don’t know about, then this certainly wasn’t ‘repeated’. What should’ve happened is just you receiving a ‘warning’ and the problem video(s) being removed. http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=92486

Found a suggestion on a way to contact Youtube about this.
“If you have NEVER had a YouTube account suspended [before], you can submit a policy inquiry. Follow these steps:
1. Go to http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py
2. Select “Report abuse”, then “General policy inquiry”, then click “Continue”.
3. Click on any of the menu items on the left.
4. A text will appear on the right; at the bottom, click on “contact us”.
5. Fill out the form as best you can and submit it. ”
Phone numbers for Youtube: 650-343-2960 and 650-253-0000, should be able to press 0 to get a live person.
