UPDATE: Music + Where My Life’s at Now

Greetings, everybody!

Hope you all are having a wonderful day today!  I took the whole day off work to see the “Sex and the City” movie, and also worked on new music!

As I’ve stated before, I plan on posting up a new song every Sunday for the next year, as well as a music video for that song.  The song I worked on… will be further discussed on Sunday   Right now, I’m trying to figure out how I want to make the music video.  I don’t have any fancy equipment, just a camera, but I’m always trying to think of creative visual ideas for my songs.

Okay, so I guess since this is one of the earliest entries for this site, I’ll do a “Right Now” report.  Basically, I want you all to get a picture of where my life is right now, so that as things change you’ll be able to see a development cycle.  What fun!

MY LIFE RIGHT NOW:

* I live in Atlanta, GA.

* I work at a job that I loathe.  Okay, I don’t really loathe it – I loathe having a job in the first place because it makes me feel like a slave to a schedule and payment plan.  I’d rather be making money via my creativity.

* I have no girlfriend.  I have girls I date, but I haven’t really found “the One” yet.

* My income for the moment: I have enough money coming in to pay my 3 bills – apartment, phone, internet/cable – and to finance my progressive steps towards my dream.

* My current recording “studio” consist of: my Studio apartment, my bootleg Fruity Loops program, my laptop, a $200 H2 Zoom studio microphone, and a set of studio headphones I bought form a guy off Craig’s List.  Very nice sound, too!

Um… I think that’s pretty much it.  The song is done already, which gives me today and tomorrow to shoot a video for it.  Stay tuned!

INSIGHT INTO A SONG:

Last December, Snoop Dogg released his song, “Sensual Seduction,” and after one listen, I KNEW this song would be ripe for a parody!  After taking two days to figure out what I could use as subject matter that would sound close to the phonetics of the original song, I suddenly thought of “Erectile Dysfunction” and burst out laughing!

Clearly, this was a good idea to run with.

I recorded it and wanted to get the song out there, but I had two problems: one, I didn’t have time to put a REAL video together because it was around Christmas and staying with family; and two, I wasn’t too familiar with any free MP3 download sites.  So, I found a bunch of pictures online, pasted them and put them together on www.onetruemedia.com, loaded up the music and made a crappy-ass video for the song, figuring it wouldn’t get much play, but I could at least send it out to my friends via youtube.

Imagine my surprise when, one day after putting it on youtube, it had 120 views – and I hadn’t even told anyone about the song yet!

5 months later, the song just passed the 10,000 view mark.  My brother’s girlfriend’s brother, who goes to VCU, said it was the #1 downloaded song at his school – odd, given that I didn’t give a link address for the download of the song until last month.  Guess someone must have recorded it and sent it around – and I couldn’t be happier about it!

Welcome to One-Song-a-Week!

Greetings!

My name is Aaron P. Taylor, but most people call me “A.P.T.”  I am an up-and-coming song writer and beat-maker, and I am using the internet to become famous!

Truthfully, I am an internet junkie.  When I’m not at work or making songs in my Studio apartment, I’m surfing the net looking for God knows what to keep me entertained.

The concept for this website is actually stolen from something I saw while surfing around one day.  Yahoo has this segment called “People of the Web,” where they profile people doing things on the internet to get famous.

I saw a story they did about this guy named Jonathan Coulton, a software engineer-turned-rockstar who, at the age of 36, quit his job to do music full-time.  One of his friends suggested that he try writing one song per week for a year, and posting them on his website.  By the time the year was over with, not only was he making MORE money being a musician that he did at his old job, he was also a certified “rock star,” touring the U.S. with no backing from any major music companies – just a lot of fans who were willing to put up the money for him to come to their town and see him perform.

(I highly recommend his website, www.jonathancoulton.com – his remake of “Baby Got Back” is hilarious!!)

Now me, I’m a big fan of the whole “if the wheel ain’t broke, use it again” concept.  Basically, since it worked for him, I figure the least I could do was give it a shot!

I’ve already got a bunch of songs in my arsenal that have yet to be heard by others, and I’m always making up songs while I’m walking around town.  So, with that said, I am going to be posting up ONE song a week on this site for the next year.  From May 2008 until May 2009, I will post a song up here every Sunday for you to enjoy!

And, to add to that, I will also do my best to see that a video is made for each song posted!  It may not always be the world’s best video, but I have a camera that takes phots and video, so I figured I might as well go for it!

Lastly, once I have found which MP3 provider to use, I will display a link in which you can download the songs for free.  As of right now, I’m not asking for money for the songs, though that may change later.  All I want right now is for you to download the song, copy it, pass it around to your friends, and help me create a buzz!

In-between Sundays, I will be blogging on here about any daily aspects of my life that I feel warrant being talked about.  I already have quite a few blog sites out there where I dish about my opinions, but I don’t really have one where I blog about what’s happening in my life.  Some of these bloggins will also be music-related, in terms of where I am or what I’m doing to help further my career (aside from posting up songs here, of course!).
